Honda Acty — Transmission Fluid

Manual transmission MTF and front differential GL-4 fluid specifications and change procedure.

Note:The Honda Acty uses two separate fluid sumps on 4WD (HA4) models: the main manual transmission and a front differential unit. Both should be serviced together. 2WD models (HA3) have a combined transaxle and rear differential.

Drain & Fill Procedure

Manual Transmission

  1. Warm the truck up first — warm fluid drains faster and carries more suspended contaminants out with it. Park on a level surface and shut the engine off.
  2. The engine and transmission are accessed through the removable panel in the center of the truck bed. Remove the four bolts and lift the panel out.
  3. Locate the fill plug on the side of the transmission case. Remove it first — if the fill plug is seized and you drain the fluid before opening it, you will have no way to refill.
  4. Remove the drain plug and allow the old fluid to drain completely into a suitable container.
  5. Reinstall the drain plug and torque to approximately 3.0–3.5 kg·m (22–25 ft·lb).
  6. Fill with 1.3 qt (1.2 L) of GL-4 75W-90 or Honda MTF through the fill plug opening. Fill until fluid just begins to weep out of the fill hole — this is the correct level.
  7. Reinstall the fill plug and torque to 3.0–3.5 kg·m (22–25 ft·lb).

Front Differential (HA4)

  1. Locate the front differential unit, forward of the transmission on the driver's side.
  2. Remove the fill plug on the side of the differential case first.
  3. Remove the drain plug and drain the old fluid.
  4. Reinstall the drain plug.
  5. Fill with 0.48 qt (0.45 L) of GL-4 75W-85 until fluid reaches the bottom of the fill plug threads.
  6. Reinstall the fill plug.
Tip:Use a fluid pump or squeeze bottle with a flexible hose to fill both sumps — the fill openings are in tight locations and direct pouring is difficult without spillage.
