Honda Acty — Timing & Drive Belts
Timing belt, alternator belt, and AC compressor belt — intervals, part numbers, and replacement procedure.
Replacement Intervals
Timing Belt
| Brand | Part Number | Notes / Info |
|---|---|---|
| Honda | 14400-P36-004 | OEM Timing Belt — E07Z engine |
| Bando | TB154 | OEM-quality aftermarket — commonly used |
| Gates | T154 | US market equivalent |
Replacement Overview
The timing belt is accessed from the right (passenger) side of the engine, through the bed access panel. The procedure involves removing the alternator belt, valve cover, crankshaft pulley bolt, and the timing belt covers before the belt itself is accessible.
Setting TDC (Top Dead Centre)
Before removing the old belt, rotate the engine to TDC on the compression stroke for cylinder 1. On the E07Z:
- The crankshaft timing mark (a notch on the crankshaft pulley) should align with the 0° mark on the lower timing cover.
- The camshaft sprocket timing mark should align with the mark on the upper timing cover or valve cover mating surface.
- Confirm cylinder 1 is on compression stroke (not exhaust stroke at TDC) by verifying both valves on cylinder 1 are fully closed.
Installation
- With the engine at TDC, install the new belt starting at the crankshaft sprocket, then around the water pump, tensioner pulley, and finally the camshaft sprocket.
- Verify all timing marks are still aligned after fitting the belt.
- Release or adjust the tensioner to apply correct belt tension per the factory spec.
- Rotate the engine two full revolutions by hand and recheck all timing marks.
- Reinstall timing covers, crankshaft pulley, and valve cover.
- Install and tension the alternator belt before starting.
- Start the engine and verify normal operation. Check for coolant leaks if the water pump was replaced.
Alternator Belt
| Brand | Part Number | Notes / Info |
|---|---|---|
| Bando | 4PK680 | 10 mm × 675 mm — alternator/power steering belt |
| Gates | K040268 | US equivalent for alternator belt |
Belt Tension
The alternator belt should deflect approximately 8–12 mm when pressed firmly at the midpoint of the longest free span. Loosen the alternator pivot bolt and adjustment bolt, reposition the alternator to achieve correct tension, then retighten. Recheck tension after running the engine briefly — new belts typically seat and lose a small amount of tension on first use.
AC Compressor Belt
Actys equipped with air conditioning have a separate belt driving the AC compressor. This belt runs from the crankshaft pulley to the compressor. Inspect it at every oil change for cracking, glazing, or fraying. Replace on the same schedule as the alternator belt. The compressor can be disengaged by switching the AC off at the dash if the belt needs replacement before a full service.
