Honda Acty — Lift & Suspension

2-inch lift kit installation and front spring replacement guide.

Warning:Lifting a vehicle raises its center of gravity and changes its handling characteristics. A lifted Acty is more prone to body roll and tip-over in sharp turns at speed. Drive accordingly. Do not exceed the manufacturer's cargo rating after lifting.

Overview

The stock Acty sits low and has minimal ground clearance for off-road use. A 2-inch lift significantly improves approach, departure, and breakover angles without requiring major drivetrain modifications. Two primary methods are used by owners: dedicated lift kits that use body spacers or suspension spacers, and replacing the front coil springs with longer units.

2-Inch Lift Kit

Several vendors in the Acty community sell purpose-built 2-inch lift kits for the HA3 and HA4. These typically include front strut spacers, rear leaf spring add-a-leafs or spacer blocks, and the necessary hardware. Kit quality varies — look for kits with steel spacers rather than polyurethane or aluminum for longevity.

Front Strut Spacers

  1. Lift and support the front of the vehicle on jack stands. Remove the front wheels.
  2. Support the bottom of the strut with a floor jack before unbolting it — the strut is under spring compression and will move when freed from the top mount.
  3. Remove the top strut mount nuts at the top of the wheel well (accessed from the engine bay or under the hood on cab-forward models).
  4. Lower the strut assembly out of the wheel well.
  5. The spacer is installed between the top of the strut tube and the vehicle body mount. Follow the kit instructions for the specific hardware arrangement.
  6. Reinstall the strut assembly with the spacer in place. Torque all fasteners to spec.
  7. Reinstall the wheel and lower the vehicle.

Rear Leaf Spring Spacers

Rear lift is achieved with spacer blocks installed between the leaf spring pack and the axle perch, or by adding a leaf to the spring pack. Block spacers are simpler to install but can shift — ensure the centering pin engages both the block and axle perch correctly. New longer U-bolts are typically required when using blocks thicker than 1 inch.

Front Spring Replacement

An alternative to spacers on the front is to replace the OEM coil springs with longer aftermarket units. This provides a more progressive spring rate and often a better ride quality compared to top-mount spacers.

Replacement Spring Length
10 inches (254 mm)
Spring Inner Diameter
2.5 inches (63.5 mm)
Lift Achieved
Approximately 2 inches over stock
Tip:Spring replacement requires a spring compressor. Do not attempt to remove or install coil springs without proper compression tools — a released spring under compression is capable of causing serious injury. Rent a spring compressor from an auto parts store if you do not own one.

Spring Swap Procedure

  1. Lift and support the vehicle with the front suspension hanging freely.
  2. Remove the front wheel.
  3. Disconnect the lower strut mount bolt from the lower control arm or knuckle.
  4. Compress the spring using a spring compressor tool before removing the top strut mount nut.
  5. Remove the top mount nut and slowly release the spring compressor — the assembly will separate.
  6. Swap the springs. Ensure the new spring seats correctly in the upper and lower perches.
  7. Compress the new spring, reassemble the strut, torque the top nut, and release the compressor.
  8. Reinstall the strut and wheel.

Post-Lift Considerations

  • Wheel alignment: Any suspension modification changes alignment angles. Have the alignment checked and adjusted after a lift.
  • CV axle angles: A 2-inch lift increases CV joint angles. Inspect the axle boots regularly for cracking and replace if they show wear from the increased angle.
  • Brake lines: Check that brake lines have sufficient slack at full droop and are not being stretched. Extend or reroute if necessary.
  • Speedometer accuracy: If larger tires are installed alongside the lift, the speedometer will read low. Verify your actual speed with a GPS device.
