Honda Acty — Battery
Battery compatibility, terminal conversion, and cover part numbers.
Warning:Standard US SAE batteries will not work with the Honda Acty without modification. The Acty uses JIS (Pencil Post) terminals, which are smaller than SAE terminals.
Note:The stock JIS terminals can be gently spread to accommodate the larger SAE battery posts. Using SAE-to-Pencil-Post (JIS) terminal adapters is the recommended approach for a clean, reversible installation.

Terminal Conversion Details
The Acty uses JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) pencil-post terminals, which have a smaller post diameter than the SAE terminals found on US batteries. There are two approaches to making a US battery work:
- Spread the OEM terminals: The JIS clamps on the existing battery cables can be gently spread (opened slightly) with a flat screwdriver to fit over the larger SAE posts. This is a common DIY approach — go slowly and avoid cracking the clamp. The Everstart U1-340 lawn/garden battery is the most popular choice for this method, available at Walmart.
- SAE-to-JIS terminal adapters: Small brass adapters slip over the SAE post and reduce it to JIS size. This is the cleanest reversible approach and is recommended if you plan to swap batteries again in the future.
When installing, note that the battery sits in a tray under the driver's seat. The hold-down J-bolt typically uses the lower set of holes in the battery tray — not the upper holes — to accommodate the shorter profile of the U1-340 or similar lawn/garden batteries. Confirm the J-bolt engages securely before road use.
