Daihatsu Hijet — Suspension
Front strut specs, rear shock replacement, CV boot intervals, and wheel alignment.
Front Strut
The S110P uses MacPherson struts at the front. The strut assembly cannot be rebuilt — if it is leaking oil or has lost damping, replace the complete unit. Replace in pairs to maintain even handling characteristics.
Strut Removal & Installation
- Jack the vehicle and remove the front wheel.
- Remove the brake hose clamp from the strut body.
- Remove the two lower strut attachment bolts.
- From inside the engine bay, remove the three upper attachment nuts. Pull the strut and coil spring out as a unit.
- Use a spring compressor to compress the coil spring before removing the upper support nut. Do not remove the support nut without the spring compressed — it is under significant tension.
- Inspect the spring for cracks. Coat the upper bushing with long-life chassis grease (minimum 0.5 g) on reassembly.
- Install in reverse order using all new bolts and nuts. Torque to specifications above.
Rear Shock Absorbers
The truck uses rear leaf springs with separate shock absorbers. The van uses rear coil spring suspension. Shocks cannot be rebuilt — replace as a pair.

CV Joint Boots & Driveshaft
The front axle CV joints use rubber boots to retain grease and exclude dirt. Inspect boots at every oil change — a torn boot loses its grease quickly and will destroy the CV joint within a few thousand kilometers. Replace boots in pairs per axle.
Wheel Alignment
Confirm correct tire size and inflate to the correct pressure before any alignment check. Incorrect tire pressure skews camber and caster readings. Toe adjustment is made by turning the tie rod ends — mark the tie rod position before loosening the lock nut to preserve a reference point.
