About KeiWiki

A technical reference built for owners of imported Japanese Kei vehicles.

KeiWiki is a community-driven maintenance reference for owners of imported Japanese Kei trucks, vans, and SUVs. These vehicles — the Honda Acty, Daihatsu Hijet, Mitsubishi Pajero Mini, and others — were engineered for the Japanese domestic market and arrive in North America with minimal English documentation. Service manuals are either unavailable, expensive to source, or require translation. Factory part numbers do not cross-reference directly to US catalog systems. Standard repair shops are unfamiliar with them.

KeiWiki exists to close that gap. Every article is written around the real problems owners encounter: finding a compatible oil filter at a US auto parts store, identifying a wiring connector with no label, or understanding what fluid goes in a transfer case that has no dipstick. The goal is not to reprint factory manuals — it is to provide the specific, actionable information that is otherwise scattered across forums, Facebook groups, and years of trial and error.

What We Cover

Coverage is organized by vehicle and model generation. Each vehicle section includes:

  • Specifications — engine displacement, compression ratio, ignition timing, valve clearances, fluid capacities, and torque specs drawn from factory service data
  • Maintenance procedures — oil changes, filter replacements, timing belt service, coolant flushes, brake bleeding, and clutch adjustment with step-by-step instructions and torque values
  • Parts cross-references — OEM Daihatsu, Honda, and Mitsubishi part numbers alongside verified US catalog equivalents from WIX, NAPA, Gates, NGK, and other suppliers available domestically
  • Electrical references — fuse box layouts, ignition coil part numbers, spark plug wiring, distributor identification, and wiring resource links
  • Suspension and chassis specs — alignment data, strut torques, CV boot service intervals, and driveshaft runout limits
  • Community resource links — forums, archived wiring guides, and community-sourced connector maps

Coverage expands as community knowledge is documented. Vehicle generations currently listed without full article sets are placeholders indicating planned coverage.

How the Information Is Sourced

Content is compiled from factory service manuals (where obtainable), verified community experience, owner-reported part fitment, and cross-referencing with US supplier catalogs. Where a spec comes from a secondary source or community consensus rather than a factory document, that is noted in the article. Part numbers listed as “verified fit” have been confirmed by multiple owners, not just catalog lookup.

Information is updated when corrections are identified. If you find an error — wrong part number, incorrect torque value, outdated procedure — the best place to flag it is the relevant forum community (r/keitruck for Hijet and general Kei discussion; r/HondaActy for Acty-specific topics).

Who This Site Is For

KeiWiki is written for owners who do their own maintenance and need specific numbers, not general advice. Articles assume basic mechanical literacy — you know what a drain plug is, you understand torque specs, and you are comfortable working under a vehicle on jack stands. For procedures that carry risk (fuel system work, brake hydraulics, timing belt replacement on interference engines), hazard callouts are included with the relevant sections.
